
Gareth Kwok is a talented and versatile play-by-play announcer with experience calling NBA G League basketball, Minor League Baseball and NCAA Division I athletics. He is currently the TV play-by-play broadcaster for the Rip City Remix, the NBA G League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Public Relations & Broadcasting Assistant for the Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
A San Francisco Bay Area native, Gareth has also filled in on the radio for Arizona State men’s & women’s basketball and baseball on the Sun Devil Radio Network on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM and KDUS 1060 AM, the Arizona Fall League on MLB.com and Pac-12 Insider on Pac-12.com.
In November 2023, Gareth was named the inaugural TV play-by-play voice of the Rip City Remix. He called all 24 home games that were aired locally on KPDX Fox 12+ and on NBAGLeague.com. He also joined the Blazers Tip-Off Show during the season to update fans on the progression and development of the team’s younger players.
Gareth’s first job in Minor League Baseball was in March 2023 as the Broadcasting and Media Relations Assistant for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, in Manchester, NH. He called 88 home and road games on the radio on WGIR 610 AM and on MiLB.TV.
His first job out of college was with the Frederick Keys, the former Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, in Frederick, MD, as their Radio Broadcaster and Community/Public Relations Assistant. He called 74 games solo from June through September, conducted pregame and postgame shows with players and coaches and served as the primary contact for local media.
Gareth is a May 2022 graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University with extensive experience as a sports anchor, radio show host, writer, reporter and production assistant.
While at Arizona State, Gareth was recognized by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America (STAA) as a Second Team All-American in STAA’s Jim Nantz Award All-America Program in May 2022. He was also awarded “Best Baseball/Softball Play-by-Play” by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) in March of 2021 and 2022. He was nominated as a finalist by the IBS for “Best Men’s/Women’s Basketball Play-by-Play” in March 2021.
During his four years at the Cronkite School, Gareth was one of the lead TV and radio voices for Arizona State athletics on Pac-12 Network Digital and KASC Blaze Radio, Arizona State’s student radio station. He called Arizona State baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, football, softball, women’s soccer, women’s water polo, women’s tennis and wrestling.
When he is not calling sports, Gareth enjoys golfing, hiking, playing pickleball, eating thin-crust pizza and Thai food, and spending time with family and friends.
